Hi my name is Lee Hand, I am a 24 year old men’s fitness model competitor & personal trainer working in the CMB Gym here in Dublin and have been training for the past 8 years.
My whole life I’ve been surrounded with health & fitness. My dad has trained his whole entire life and still out trains most young kids these days, despite the fact being 53 years young!
I first started my fitness journey when I took up boxing at the age of 16. I quickly became addicted and went from training 3 times per week in the club, to training 10 times per week. I began to teach myself to train with weights to get stronger and faster in the ring. This combined with rounds and rounds of sparring and huge amounts of hours spent running, allowed me to become both Dublin & Leinster Boxing Champion at 64kgs at the age of 18. I then qualified for the All Irelands but unfortunately lost in the quarter finals.
As the years went on I became more and more obsessed with weight training and how you could transform your physique with the right training and nutritional approach. With fights over in the U.K. and a record of 14-2, I decided to hang up the gloves and pursue my dreams of becoming a fitness model competitor. After 3 years spent educating myself on all things fitness related and training consistently, I managed to pack on enough size to start thinking about competing. I was no longer a 64kg boy, but now a 97kg man.
“Miami Pro” would be the name of my first fitness model competition. I decided to take on this challenge with 34 weeks to prepare for it. I spent a solid 18 weeks eating and training to put on as much muscle as possible, gaining 12kgs and then transitioned to a 16 week cut where I got to a level of 5% body fat on stage. Training sessions were at 20 per week, 10 weight training sessions & 10 intense cardio sessions. Preparing for a competition is by no means easy, but it sure is enjoyable when you love what you do.
During my Preparation for this competition, I finished my college degree in business management & entrepreneurship and decided to enrol at Image Fitness Training Centre, where i obtained my level 4 personal trainer qualification.
Training always allowed me to remain disciplined and gave me the confidence to know anything is achievable with the right positive mindset & attitude. I am constantly trying to broaden my knowledge by reading books and aim to listen to at least 30 podcasts per week. The fitness industry is forever growing and a good personal trainer will always keep up to date with the latest studies and material being published. This way, you the client, receive the best results possible as no stone is left unturned.
Since finishing my personal training course I have begun my career working in The CMB Gym on Fitzwilliam street. I’m excited for what the next few years hold working in one of the best gyms in Dublin and I am really looking forward to working closely with clients to bring them all their desired goals.
